Hi

all newbie to the forum and Harley ownership… I have a rocker c that was running fine but suddenly engine management light has come on when riding and pulling up a b1006 error code… I’ve cleared it but just comes back after 10 mins of riding, also now showing 1008

any advice appreciated

What year is the rocker? When I get to work, I will look up the code for you.

The B1006 trouble code is a a voltage spike... from what I've read, the ECM throws a code any time it sees 16V or more for 5+ seconds... I believe it's in the accessory line... do you have a bunch of stuff hooked up to your accessory switch? It usually means an issue with the voltage regulator and/or stator. They should be checked...

I did a search and found a couple cases where that B1006 code was alleged to be caused by a faulty load equalizer in the system for LED lights. That doesn't make sense to me, but if you have one, it's worth a try... disconnect the load equalizer and see if the issue goes away...

The B1008 trouble code is for the reset switch on the speedometer. Should be pretty easy to change out if you clear it and it comes back.

Good luck with your diagnosis and repair...

Neither of those two items, if installed properly and working properly should cause the codes you have....

First thing I do anytime I have an electrical "issue"... is to check teh battery, the battery cables and especially the grounds... there is a main ground connection to the frame, just forward of the battery, at the base of the tank, and under the seat...

If you have a friend knowledgeable about Harleys, they could check the stator and voltage regulator... It's not hard to do, but knowledge about Harleys is a plus, and the ability to use a multimeter is essential... The Voltage regulator is a pretty easy fix. A stator replacement will require disassembly of the primary.. a labor intensive job.

Do you have LED turn signals....? If so, you probably have a load equailzer inline between the main harness and the rear lights harness plugs, under the seat. Again, someone familiar with Harleys should be able to check that for you...

Also, the speedometer reset button is under the speedo console. I am unsure off the top of my head about how the 2009s are wired, but it should be easy to replace that switch..

If you don't have someone available to help and/or you don't feel comfortable getting a service manual and trying it for yourself, find an Independent Harley shop with a good reputation. They will usually give better service and be much cheaper than having a dealer check this stuff out for you...

Good luck with you repair...
