Just got my deuce in nov 06 and i noticed about 5 months ago there was oil under my bike so i took it in to the dealer and they came up with i must of changed the oil and it got in the main elec jacket by the filter and now its just finding it way out B.eefffin S. So basicly to make a long story short its been there 2 more time for the problem and still i have yet to get a logical answer and the bike still leaks!! What the Hell!! This is my first harley and i didnt expect to pay 19grand for something that leaks, should i just take it to another dealer or what!!
Well if youve been to the same dealer that you bought it for 3 seperate times for the exact same problem and have not gotten it fixed I'd look into your states Lemon Laws. And let your dealers service department know about it too.Insiston speaking with the Service Departments manager , not the service writer.Ya, Its only an Oil leak but still make them fix it. Then again if theres another dealer near you what could it hurt to try them. I just hate letting them get off the hook by going elsewhere, kind of like rewarding them for sub standard practices.
Where is the leak coming from? Where is the spot located under the bike where you are finding the oil. I know I have found oil spots under my bike on theleft side just below where the swingarm mounts to the frame. That is b/c there is a vent hose there that vents from the oil tank. If the tank is overfilled, sometimes a drop of two of oil will drip out of the hose. Mine did this off and on for the first year. I took it to two dealers and they found nothing wrong either. It reall doesn't do it any more, but that's b/c my oil level is where it should be. You might want to try lowering the oil level to about 75% of the FULL HOT line (still well within the operating range). If your bike was serviced at a dealer, they probably overfilled it. If it is leaking to the point you are having to add oil, or you know it isn't coming from a vent hose, then that is not acceptable. I would call Harley corporate and get the warranty dept. on the line, they helped me when a dealer was being shady.
