Default Used leather trunk install.

I'm looking at a used leather trunk that came off of a 18+ Heritage. My question is I want to install of my 2004 Heritage and have been told by some "experts" that I could take off my passenger backrest and use my HD luggage rack to install trunk. On the surface it appears with some engineering it should work. The trunk has the later mounting hardware which will not work. Any thoughts or experience would help. Thanks in advance.

Looking at Harley's parts site, the 2018 rack that is used for the trunk is on an angle. It also appears the bottom of the trunk is angled. I would imagine some fabrication can be done to fit your luggage rack but it would involve getting the angle for the backrest to be correct. Why not just look at aftermarket that is made for luggage racks?

I have a number of tail bags. I just found this takeoff factory trunk at a good price that I liked. I can purchase the right mounting bracket for $200.00 plus if I can't get luggage rack to work.

I'm doing the same thing for my Springer. Say what you will, but I just went to Amazon and ordered the mount I wanted. Was a lot easier than trying to make something work and it's a lot cheaper (okay, use that word however you will) than what H-D offers.

This one is for solo rides, but there are also ones for two-up as well. For $50, I figure it'll work just fine. Hope it helps!

Just finished the install with the mount I highlighted. It's definitely not an H-D mount. Took a little bit of tweaking to get it to fit. I found out that when you bolt down the tour pack, it tugs the upper part up just a shade. That made the front mounts a little narrow. A slight tweak while the tour pack was on and it fit perfectly with no fuss!
