They're broke in pretty good by 200K.... I have a friend that had a 89 Ultra that he put 417,888 miles on and when HD found out about it they took it and gave him a brand new 2000 Ultra and it now has over 200,000 miles on it... he has slowed down alot ... he's now 75 .............and he rides his two Bourgman scooters over 17,500 miles each a year around town (100 mile radius)... so ride on brother !!!!

No, 1999 was the last year for the evo, only came in softails. That's barely broke in dude. Good score.
I had tappet problems on my 1994 springer at 30K, but my 93 fxstc had over 60k with no problems.

Harley is bad about using cheap cam bearings. At some point down the road it would be really great to replace those bearings with Torrington brand bearings, and the tappets, although they might last forever.

While you're there, something like an Andrews EV27 cam wouldn't cost much to pop back in and you should like that a lot.

By 1999 HD had most of the bugs out of the EVO and you might just find it will last a long, longtime. By bugs, the EVO has always been a good motor. The early and apparently now the late twin cams have problems too, so that's part of Harley's gift to you.

In spite of all I said, I know guys who have run those motors close to 200k miles with little more than routine servicing.

I had 42,000 on a l987 Heritage when I sold it. 80,000 on a '95 Roadking, 47,000 on a '97 LowRider. None of them had any engine work done. Don't let anyone tell you that an EVO is only good for 30,000 miles.

If the cam bearing has not been done, that is something to look at.
