WTK: Is the HD Wide Tire Kit Worth It?
My 2001 Night Train has a pretty skinny 130 rear tire. I'd like to go bigger and see that Harley sells an entire kit (43685-00A) that moves you from a 130 to a 150. Kit is complete with all hardware.
The question is ... do I need this kit to put a 150 on the stock 2001 FXSTBI? Is it a waste of $$ or ? What is an average cost of a $150 tire anyway?

There are a couple of ways you can do it... you can piece out the parts from a Duece, then you get some added chrome. You can also swap out the pulleys and drivebelt. MegaHDman recently posted some good info on this swap. If you can't find it by searching, send him a PM. His way of doing it was slick.

RE: WTK: Is the HD Wide Tire Kit Worth It?
I've got a friend with a 2002 FXST who priced the HD wide tire kit. He ended up saving money by purchasing stock parts off the 2002 Duece, and ended up with the same sized tire offered in the kit (which I think is a 150). He was real happy because he got the parts for less money, plus the caliper off the Duece was chrome. I can't recall all the details cause this happened about 3 years ago... and I don't know if the 2001 NT is the same as a 2002 FXST. Just trying to help by offering an idea you might want to look into..

Here's the link, sorry for the delay.
HD Wide Tire Kit (Softail)
It comes with everything needed to go from a 130 to a 150. As I said before, the kits can be found on ebay for $200-$250 from a dealer.

Honestly I quite do not understand what they offer.
Right now I have on my FXST 2000 130tire mounted on stock rim 16x3.0.
There is 20mm (3/4") gap between tire and belt or guard.
If I put there 150mm tire (which is the maximum tire I can put on stock 16x3.0), it means that it will be (150-130)/2=10mm wider on both sides, which means that the gap between tire and belt will be 20-10=10mm which is still a lot. So I do not see any need to by this whole kit.
I think Dunlop tire is the only thing you need, which is for about $110 on ebay (including free shipping) See Dunlop 16x150
