Default rear pulley bolts

My youngest sister has a 05 Deluxe and had the stock rear pulley changed out for a chrome one with chrome bolts. Long story short, after a run on interstate highway she and brother-in-law go on a secondary road and the pulley mount bolts start shearing off until the pulley is no longer part of the rear wheel. Anybody else experience this?

Chromed bolts can suffer from what's known as hydrogen imbrittlement from the plating process.Grade 8 bolts , such as in this case become like glass. Not as noticable in lower carbon steels.Given enough shock load and because they all work as a unit will fail at the same time. It has nothing to do with aftermarket. I don't believe Hd has any interest in makingbolts. They get the specialones custommade and the rest they buy them like the rest of us.Never use a chromed bolt for a critical fastener.

Yep, been there done that. I thought I had runined my new rims when it happened. Now, I check them at least once a month just to make sure
