I'm just shocked that anyone would spend 18k on a motorcycle and then worry about the mileage.

I'm not particularly shocked. The economy is on the brink of going down the crapper, oil is 90+ $$/bbl, and I think people are just trying to get the most out of their bikes. Less $$ at the pump, less $$ for the Middle East sh!theads who either barely tolerate us or flat out hate us. Additionally, even if they aren't pinching pennies, fuel economy is sort of an indicator of how your bike is running.

As Mr Lebowski stated "fuel economy is sort of an indicator of how your bike is running"
It sort of shocked me that a bike would lose around 15 mpg from just adding pipes and an air cleaner. I was thinking maybe he had a bad tuning job done or something, but he says the bike runs great. Just wondering if something was wrong really. But, since you mentioned it..............
90 miles a day X 5 days a week X 52 weeks a year = 23,400 miles a year
$3.15 a gallon @ 35 MPG = $2106 a year or49 MPG = $1504 a year
45 MPG or better on aHarley compared to 18[:'(]in the truck happened to be a contributingfactor intheconvincing processof the Mrs. also.
My '07 was getting 34-35 with SE AC, SERT and python slip-ons Found out I had a bad bullet and we got a new one under warranty from HD. Put the new motor on the dyno and it was set-up rich with an AFR mostly around 13. We backed her off to about 14.2 openloop and about 14.6 closed loop. Bike seems to run great. Haven't run a full tank thru yet (it's snowing here right now) but am curious to see how it comes out. The Harley GURU says you should generally get around 45 if your fuel mixture is right. My 07 FXD bone stock got between 42-52 depending how much I liked to twist the wrist. I still say if you're down below 40 while cruising you have a mixture that is too rich.I won't run 'em that way regardless of what the dyno numbers are. BTW, I'm not talking idle mixtures here that's a different story and a little rich there as long as you don't foul plugs is OK.
