Springer servicing
My '07 Springer manual says it should be serviced every 4000km but the dealer says the 8000km like all the others is fine. The only difference I can see in the manual is that they check the steering head every 4000km. They say they have never had a problem. Has anyone had steering head problems on a springer?

RE: Springer servicing
MIne was serviced at 500 mi & every 2500 mi after that the steering neck adjustment is at 10K Before I got it (about 8K) i was doing a speed wobble at 39mph-43mph there would be a wobble it was annoying but not dangerous

RE: Springer servicing
No issues on mine yet. I'm coming up on 5000mi.
There is a lot of buzz about how they wear bearings faster than other front ends but except for Internet gossip and historical examples, I haven't seen any real demonstrations of excessive neck bearing failure or wear on recent Springers. In fact, I've only heard the contrary; well beyond the suggested inspection points with no bearing issues found. Having said that, I'd still do regular maintenance in order to CYA. Sure, I heard of a guy who's gone 20,000+ miles without bearing replacement or Springer front end work of any kind. But that doesn't mean everyone should expect that. |

RE: Springer servicing
I'm coming up on 10K miles on my '05 FLSTSCI and will get it done. I have noticed a slight wobbling taking turns at higher speeds and not sure if this is due to bearings infront end, or if this is just normal for springer front ends. I consider it a safety measure. Any idea on how much this service costs at the dealer?

RE: Springer servicing
Thanks for the help. I'll get it serviced by the dealer as they recommend and keep a special eye on the front end when I'm polishing it.
While I'm typing has anyone got any excellent ways to keep those springs all shiney? The bugs love them. At the moment I clean with CRC and polish with Mother's Chrome Polish. Mike |
