Got a 2005 Fatboy with the now standard 150 rear tire. The bike has 3800 miles on it and is not hot-rodded but not pampered either. Prolly by most veterans standards, the bike is not ridden hard. Seems like the rear tire sure is wearing fast with the factory recommended 36# in it for solo riding. I don't ride 2 up. What are most of you all getting for rear tire mileage??
Question #2: Got some Vance Hines Staggered Bigshots on it. Danged ears are ringing right now from a 150 mile ride this afternoon. Do very many people wear ear plugs????
I ride a Fatboy also. My tire is the original tire on back. It has 8000 miles on it. and still looks good enough for a ride I'm going on to Pheonix next week, which is 1200 miles round trip. By then I'll probablly change it out.
I run a Samson Caliber 2:1 exhaust. I wear ear plugs on long road trips due to noise but mostly due to the wind noise, deafening after a few hours. Exhaust noise I haven't noticed to much but then again I like that noise.
Good luck with the tire issue. Alignment? Rubber compound? I [sm=gears.gif]don't know.
What? Eh?? That damn telephone is still ringing!!! [sm=youreright.gif]
Yep, even with a flipup helmet earplugs are a necessity, especially if you want to sleep that night!
My bike needed a new rear after about 4500 miles⌠must be the heat!
I have an 05 Fatboy and like you keep the tire at 36# and so far at 3,000 miles they look new. As for ears .. I have the V&H 2-1 Propipe HS and with a helmet its murder on the highway (I though long flight were bad!). I like the suggestion of a smaller say half-helmet and will try this, as a last resort looks like earplugs. I am here in Daytona at Bike Week and ear-plugs are being sold everywhere - place is packed too!. I 'll post some photos soon.
Use the ear plugs as a first resort. When you ride and you have the wind noise, you will damage your hearing. I'd say ask me how I know, but you'll have to shout!
This is my first bike. I have 15,600 miles on it. I realize there is only two contacts with the pavement, not four. I have been inspecting the tires regularly. After reading the replies posted, I may be pushing my luck. Thanks for bringing this to light!
