Default engine light! 90 miles from home!

my engine light has been staying on for the past 10 miles, I also just broke 15,000 miles. By default, does this light come on as a reminder or am I in trouble? Please help!

I hope you have better luck than I did. I bought my '96 Heritage Softtail Classic last summer. 2 weeks after I bought it, the red engine light came on. I rode it gently for about 5 miles to get home, then put it in a pick up to take it to the dealer. Mechanic says there are only two reasons why the red light would come on and neither of them are good. He removed the oil filter and cut it open (I was watching) and there were pieces of metal in there as big around as a pencil lead. It seems the cam bearing disintegrated. I was stuck relacing the engine. The good news (sort of) was that I was able to get a refurbished engine from HD and the dealer installed it in about 2 weeks for just under $3,000. My $11,500 bargain became a $14,500 purchase. I have had no trouble with it since.

I dont believe it would be a default for mileage light, as I have 70,000 miles and never had a light come on. I agree check all fluids, plugs, and probably take to dealer and have them scan it to be safe.

Well I braved it and made it home safe. The bike's now at my local dealer getting it's 15,000 mile service and determining what happened! Thanks for the help!

well let us know the outcome...i wasnt sure if you said the red engine oil light or the yellow icon of the engine.&nbsp\\; on my last bike, i took a turn shaply with very little gas in the tank and the bike stalled.&nbsp\\; after that the yellow engine icon stayed on.&nbsp\\; i called the dealer, they picked the bike up and brought it in.&nbsp\\; ended up being a false alert, due to the engine stalling.
