Apes on a Heritage - Things to consider?

Ok So I'm really stuck on getting apes for my '00 Heritage. Is there anything I should consider or any reason you guys can think of one way or another to do it or not do it?

Also I'm not sure what height to get. I don't want to go any higher than 16".
Any recommendations?
I was thinking 13 something?

Also what about cables? Would you go steel braided right away when upgrading?

I'm looking to do this cost effectively without making it look too terrible.

Any ideas would be great!

Well, I'm sure I'm in the minority, but nothing looks worse on a fat bike, an FLST or and FLH than apes\\; well, 18" wheels with low profile tires look just as ridiculous.&nbsp\\; They just don't fit in with the rest of the styling.&nbsp\\; A set of buckhorns would be as much of a change as a fat bike can stand.

Over the Winter I did my APEs and decided to do it all at once. Chrome Levers,&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Chrome Switch Housings, Master Cylinder, new Grips and Stainless Steel Braided Cables. Just get it all done and move on to the next Mod...
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
I installed Wild 1 Chubbys 12.5" with 1/2" Risers. Don't forget to change out the Riser Bushings to the Poly ones.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
You will also have to extend the Wires to the Switches.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
I also installed a Chrome Front End at the same time. Lots of time over the Winter....

Like Mike, I put Chubby 12.5" apes on my '03. Ended up using +6 clutch, and throttle/idle cables. If you end up doing them, I will have the throttle and idle cables, chrome switch housings and switches with extended wires that will reach through the 12.5" bar for sale here next week sokmetime. PM me if you are interested.

12 to 14 is a really comfortable size for the Heritage. Hill Country Custom Cycles on ebay has the 13 inch bars with braided cables for about $300. My son used them for his Wide Glide and really liked their setup, one stop shopping.

It depends on what you like...&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; These are 12" bars.

I went 16" and would never go back down, most comfortable thing I ever did for riding hands down. I will say I almost wish I would have went 18" instead, but I am plent happy. check out my link to pic.

I put 18" high and 1 1/2" dia bars on mine. To me they go real good with the fl front end. I couldnt go back to stock bars.

I don't think I want to go all the way up to 18. I'm really liking the 12 1/2 inch.

Thank you guys for the input. I cannot wait to get going on this project. Like Mike NY I'm planning on chroming out the hand controls as well.

There are packages on ebay. Cable bars all in one. I did mine also. 10" bought my own cables, extended my wiring and new switch housings. &nbsp\\;Just my .02.
