Suspension question for 1 or 2 up riding...

My stock suspension is not doing well. It bottoms out and doesn't provide much support. I can adjust it but I have been considering Progressive 422's as I can raise the bike up a bit as it's too lowered from being lowered before. It seems like you need to choose between 1 up or 2 up as far as how much tension you set on the springs. I ride mostly 1 up but my wife wants to start coming along more. How would I set this up? We're both around 180-190 lbs. I would consider air ride for quick and easy adjustments but it sure seems pricey and I've read that the ride may not be as good as the 422's. What would folks suggest for set up?

I'd do the 422's, real easy and quick with a spanner wrench to adjust the spring rebound tension for 1 or 2up riding.

How easy is this? I don't want to have to lift the bike and crawl underneath to adjust the suspension if my wife decides she wants to come along for a ride. I can't see myself doing this each time and again afterwards to adjust back for myself. Sounds like a PITA to me. There must be a better solution.

Dont need to lift the bike at all, but you will have to reach under the frame with the wrench. If this is too much work then go with progressives air suspension setup. It wont be as good as the 422's but it will be better than stock.

I just installed 422's on my Heritage, but mostly to lower it. If you install them as a replacement for stock suspension (to restore stock height), I think you'll be happy with them. You probably WILL have to adjust the pre-load a couple times to get it where it feels right for both 1 and 2 up. If you go with them, you can also e-mail Progressive to ask for proper settings for your weight load.

For more info and opinions .......... there are a ton of threads on this subject.

422's solved my bottoming out riding 2-up.
Very pleased with them.
