Those of you with Springer front ends - Maintenance?
Hey guys,
I've been debating on wether or not to put a springer front end on my street bob, but I was wondering what sort of maintenance needs to be done every so often miles with these things. Thanks for the info. guys! Cheers, Adrian |

I own 2 Springers and wrench at a dealer. Intially after 500 miles, it may need to be inspected. I tell people to do so if they are having a problem with handling. At 5,000 miles the brake pad pin needs to be lubed. At 10,000 a fall away test should be done and every 10,000 miles thereafter. 30,000 miles it is supposed broken down to inspect the steering head bearings, as well as the rocker's being inspected. The stering head should be greased at every oil change (2500 miles). This I what I go by, for customers I go by the manual and do what the customer pays for.

what kinda springer are you gonna put on? the HD ones need to be serviced every 10,000 miles or so. I spent about 1500 bucks on a DNA springer that can go longer. the 1500 covered a new headlight, new front wheel, all the mounting stuff, new front tire, brake caliper n bracket, new handlebars, had to have the forks machined at my local machine shop to accept the wild ones T bars I wanted.
theres a link in my sig photo. |

5,000 + miles and NO problems. I love my xbones. Had it looked at, at 500 miles and it was fine.

I was going to get the springer front end from Demons Cycles (they are local to me, so I could pick it up..) But I'm just afraid that its going to be a high maintenance item.

Over 70,000 miles on mine and no problems with anything. Still have the original bearings in it. I have it checked every time I have it serviced and the dealer mechanic tears it apart and rebuilds it every 25,000 miles just to make sure it's okay. It is time to replace the stock shock though, it's starting to bottom out when I hit the bumps. Going to go with the Fournales air shock, expensive but definitely worth the price.
