Get a different seat or take your current one to someone in your area that can remove seat cover -shave the padding and replace the cover. My wife has a Heritage Softail Classic. She likes the seat rail look - so we purchased a Deluxe seat thru e-bay - first time riding her Classic with the Deluxe seat - she complained about the same problem (Being to close) the seat has now been modified and recovered in "Black Gator" Looks and works well. By the way - the Softail Classic seat should fit your bike - it will move you back - check e-bay for a Deal

I pulled the cover off and shaved it down. Do a search for it on this site and there is good step by step instructions.

Liver I had the same problem. The late model Heritage seat will move you back and is very comfortable AND the late model Fat Boy seat will move you back more because its basically flat. Comfort is a bit compromised on the FB seat though.
Good luck,

Heritage

I just did this yesterday. I spent the day in my shop out of the wind. Did my 5k serivce and a seat mod plus installed my springer classic seat rail! All while watching Texas High School Football! Talk about heaven!

I am 6'3" 240 and needed to scoot back a little even with my mini apes. I removed the cover and cut away about one and a half inches of the rear rim foam. Then took my 4 inch makita grinder and shaped it (talk about mess!). After that I cut and formed an old memory foam pillow to fill where I removed the old seat foam and in the "saddle". Re-installed and tighened the seat upholtersy and wala and nice comfey scoot back memory foam seat. I just wish my staple job looked as good as HD's. You can seat slight wave at the edge of the memory foam but its not too bad. I will post a pic later.

Next I am gonna make my low springer classic backrest to go on the rail.
