Default Fuel gauge removal / install??

I bought one of the Willie G LED fuel guages off of ebay so it didn't come with instructions. How do I take the original gauge off? I was told the wiring runs down the center of the tank somehow? Could someone tell me how to locate the wiring harness to unplug the old gauge?

Thank you!

Best advise...Get a Manual for your bike. It will tell you step by step how to perform any task on your ride.

What you are wanting to do isn't difficult, on a Softail, I have done it 3-4 times. Unfortunatly, I have never worked on a Sporty, and I do not know if they are the same or not.

martin - Do you have a softail or a Sportster like your bio says? I can help you if it is a softail, however a Spotster will be different and I would suggest you look on their forum.

Uner the tank on the left side of the bike (near the plugs) is a clip with some wires in it. Un hook the wires from the clip and follow the wires until you find a plug. Unplug the plug and lift up on the fuel guage. Easy as pie...At least for a softail...

ok, Under your tank on the left side below the current fuel guage, you will see a wire coming out of a hole in the tank. Follow that wire to a plug. Disconnect the plug at that point. If your new guage came with a new loose black 4-pin plug great. You can cut the old plug off just at the plug. Once you do that, you can gently pull straight up on your old fuel guage and the wires will slide up through the tank until it is completely removed. Installation from here is easy. Just make sure that you feed the wires down through the hole BEFORE you connect your new 4-pin plug. Once the wires are fed through, insert the pins into the new plug that correspond with the existing plug. I can't remember the color of the 3 different wires. One of the holes is left empty. I hope this makes sense. Good Luck
