Throttle won't adjust properly
Ok, I'm back with yet another issue, (I'm starting to feel like a real dumb azz here). I can't seem to get my throttle/idle cables adjusted. I followed the service manual, (front wheel straight, adjust throttle, turn wheel to the right & adjust idle until throttle snaps back), but the throttle won't snap back to idle position. I check the housing assembly to make sure there wasn't anything hanging up in there, & it all looked good. Any ideas?

try and lube them. otherwise they maybe binding. I zip tided mine to my brake line once and they would not return becasue they set at an angle.

I see you said you checked the housing, but my guess would still be the little wedge piece that sits on the end of the thumb screw inside the housing. It's pretty easy for it to get dislodged from the thumb screw a little bit and cause some binding. Also I'm not sure what all you've done, but if you ran new cables, check at the throttle body and make sure they are routed correctly there. There's an extra slot that the throttle cable can be routed thru and still work, but it's not the correct angle and will cause some binding

Yes I've installed new, (longer), cables as I've changed bars from stock to 12.5" apes. The package that the cables came in stated that they had been pre-lubed & not to lube them. BTW, they are Magnum Chromite 2 cables. I'll open the housing & take another look. I did have to drill a 1/4" hole in the bottom of the housing for my stock location turn signal wire. (I ran it inside the bars). Maybe the signal wire is the problem.
By throttle body, are you refering to where the cable attaches to the carb? Thanks guys. |
I think He's talkin about the Grip Housing
sometimes It can get Jamed up in there when U tightin it down |

My bike is a 99 Fatboy. I took the housing completely apart again & still can't find anything out of the ordinary. I think I'm gonna disconnect the cables from the carb side & see if the throttle grip still hangs up. I did find a rubber piece sitting in my parts tray, (after I put everything back together), that I can't seem to identify. It looks like it should fit over the handle bar (slides on perfectly), & has a groove around it. I'm thinkin it might be the missing link. This wouldn't by chance fit into the housing end of the grip (Kuryakyn iso grips), & the groove is for the top & bottom housings to fit in? Hmmmmm I'm gonna go take a look see.

Nope, that's not where it goes. I'm as confused as a breast feeding baby at a titty bar. I do think the problem is in the fitment of the grip into the housing, cause even with the tension backed off of the cables, it feels like it's dragging.
