Hey guys, new to the forum and the Harley world. Just bought my first one, 1995 Softail Custom with 5,000 miles. Just had a quick question. It has harley slip on's now but the guy gave me a new set of V/H Short short. What can i expect to pay to have these installed? Thanks in advance for the help and i'm sure i'll be asking more questions.

If you are talking about having Harley do the work they charge by the hour. I would say 1 hour labor, 2 tops at about $75 an hour. Not a real hard thing to do yourself. If you go to Vance& Hines web site you can view and print directions how to remove and install pipes.

 

83.00 an hour here in minnesota, call service and ask for an estimate, I wouldn't think it would be more then an hour, usualy not a difficult task to do it yourself

 

I had my bss installed at Harley...

But I also had it dynoed...

Install of AK, exhaust, and dyno was $458

 

What about rejetting? V/H recommeds it, but what is it and how much does that increase price. Thanks

I have not bought a jetting kit for a Harley... So not sure how much that would be. My guess is that it is going to be the standard labor rate to get that done... cannot imagine it taking more than an hour for them to rejet a carb... But I personally do not have experience with it.

It's easy to do in cars... Would think it would not be much different on the HOG.

 

Might not even have to rejet if it's tuned now for Screamin Eagle or other high-performance aftermarket slip-ons.
If they're stock, then yes you'll need to tune it up for the new pipes.

Service wise, the exhaust swap is easy enough to do yourself:
Two gaskets, one hour, two beers and a set of wrenches.. Harder to take the stock ones off than put the new ones on also.

But the tuning is a little more complex..
I'd take it in for that part at least, though others here with carb tuning experience would find it simple.

 

Depending on how good you are with a wrench, changing pipes is very easy and can be done in under an hour. As for the re-jetting, that's also simple as long as you use the right jets. Call V&H and ask what jets they recommend for your settup. Then you can just buy the jets individually for a few bucks each and save the expense of an entire jet kit. Good luck.

Like most have said, Harley charges by the hour and most prices are around $75 and up, depending on the dealer. You can also look at some places that services harleys and their hourly rates are not as steep as Harley, or you could just do it yourself.
