My wife has a 2008 Deluxe, which she just loves, but she is a little short and after putting a Sundowner seat on the bike she loves so much-- we need to get the bars closer. I've looked at risers, and different bars, but all we get is a little more confused. Anybody changed bars on a Deluxe to get about 2" more pullback or reach, and not get to wide tip to tip? K.R.D.
Seems a bunch choose to put beach bars on but they seem wide to me. I added wild one 508 which is similar to bars on a full dress bike. Really comfortable and not too wide. Mine are chubbys so the look is good too.
chubby's are great bars. They have any style you can think of. I have them also.(503's)
The only thing with those bars are they are made for internal wiring which can be a bigger job than one might think. you may check out drag specialties to get some ideas of several different style bars. Im sure you can find bars that just require simple R&R ..good luck
Looking to do the same with my wife's 08 Deluxe. She refused to put a different seat on it because she want's to keep the "authentic Deluxe" look. For the same reason she doesn't want Heritage style bars on her bike even though they would give her the pullback she needs. She's a PITA sometimes.
We had the dealer try out several different bars on her bike and one seemed to work good for her. He called it a "reach" bar. Still haven't decided. Looking also at the Chubby1 and Flanders sites.
One thing I noticed when looking at the different bars is that it seems the more pullback the more the handles point back. (The rototiller effect). This puts your wrists in an uncomfortable postion and can be a problem on long rides.
I have a Sundowner seat also and put Harley mini ape handlebars on. I don't recommend this set up at all for short-armed folks like me. They are also too wide. I recently installed a set of Khromewerks Sweeper handlebars. These look very awesome!! And put the handlebars closer without going any wider. I definitely recommend this setup. It totally changes the looks of the bike for the best. Check'm out on khromewerks.com
I changed the bars on my Deluxe to get more pullback and less of that contored wrist twist that the stock Harley bars had. The bars were the only thing I did not like about the Deluxe. I went with the Wild 1 Chubbys WO504. Highly recommend these bars. They also look great thanks to the thick look and internal wiring. Best of all, they do not require changing risers, which I opted to keep because I liked the stock Deluxe look.
