Can't ride in the rain

Im at a loss as to how I can ride this damn bike in the rain. Ive never ever had a problem riding any other scoot in any weather, but this damn EFI bike is killing me. Every single time I ride in the rain I end up having to pull over, disconnect my PCIII, plug in my stock ECM and continue on. With the PCIII connected I get nasty popping, misfiring, a code for incomplete combustion on cylinder 1, falling on its face, etc, etc, etc... Im not talking about drizzle. Im talking about hard , driving rain, that drenches you and your riding in it for well over 100 miles. So what the hell can I do to waterproof this goddamn ECM so I dont have to put up with this shit anymore? Ive used enough dialectric grease to kill an army, Ive wrapped the connectors in entire rolls of electrical tape, Ive even put the connectors in ziploc bags and then sealed the bags with more electrical tape. Im at my wits end. The past few times, I dont think any significant amount of water got past my "water-proofing" so I dont know what else it could be? I have the AN Big sucker II, do you all think that it could be getting so wet that the motor is sucking in some water or air moist enough to throw off the F/A ratio? Ive looked at my plugs and wires and ruled them out as an issue. Why does the bike run fine in the rain on the stock ECM but like shit on the PCIII. Im starting to think the only way for me to go is to get the SERT tuner or something but I dont have the cabbage to drop on it right now with a newborn and all. Whats a guy to do????

Iam not for sure but maybe the rain is not getting in the connections maybe its getting in the Power commander? On a softail doesn't the PC sit behind the rear tire flap or something like that? I know your pain i have had a few issues myself and just pulled mine back out of my dyna and dumped everything in it and reloaded the map and reset the throttle 0 position and so far not running bad at all i now have a little decel pop when you let it decel way down but other than that its ok so far.

But i think when i get the cabbage iam going to go with a SERT and have it dyno first i don't like all the connections and having to shove all the connectors and wiring around in that little hole that cant be good on the factory harness and live of the wiring etc. And the issues i have had thus far. At first everything was good but i now have 31,000 miles on the bike and who knows may not be a PC problem may be something else not sure but iam working on it.

But you either have a water issue getting in somewhere on a connector or into the power commander or you got a bad pc or your map possibly corrupted and may need to do what i did and wipe it clean and reload and reset throttle position.

Sorry to hear about your problem 343.

I have a PCIII and I've never had a problem with the bike in the rain.

Last week I got caught in the rain about an hour and 1/2 away from home.
For most of that time it was pouring like a mother*****. :icon_badrazz:

Other than being totally soaked and the bike getting trashed, everything else was fine.

Where is the PCIII mounted? Under the seat?

When I washed my bike I removed the seat and there was water and mudd all around the PCIII but I had no problems with the motor.

Hopefully somebody here can help ya out with a fix.

This is the first I can remember reading about a PC111 acting funky in the rain....

If you are dead set on getting rid of the PC111 and "Cabbage" is the pressing factor and you dont want an aftermarket device attached to yer' bike you may wanna check around for a local tuner who uses Direct Link tuning.http://www.technoresearch.com/Produc...k_Features.htm

No additional stuff to add on the bike and you get to retain the near legendary (Lol) reliability of the stock box. I get my bike tuned and leave with a thumb drive that has my latest tune on it.

The cost of the Techno Reserch direct link is like $250 so its cost effective and once ran on your bike and you have the thumb drive its all good.

The downside is that derned Dyno time cost and finding a tuner who will take the time and tune it right!!!

Hope you get this resolved .. Have heard a few other complaints about PCIII and Rain although Mine is fine and believe me has seen some wet times with it with no problems.. I did want it tuned right so went to the best Dyno Guy I know of where I am located and let him do it all, including Installing it .. Best $200.00 ever spent...

My PCIII is located behind the mud guard in front of the rear wheel. I zip tie a baggie around it and have never had a problem.... including in torrential downpours.

My PCIII is located behind the mud guard in front of the rear wheel. i had it there about 1 year. i used silicon grease on the connections and the battery plug and the usb plug. i have a Thundermax now and love it.

I also use a Direct Link. My dealer recommended it over the SERT. They said it is a little easier to tune with the D-Link and it costs less. I've had no issues with the D-Link in the rain.

Im gonna go with the SERT when I can I think. Ive got my PCIII behind the mud guard. Ive tried the ziploc and zip-tie, and I had it custom tuned on the dyno by a very reputable guy in the area who is a certified dynojet tuner, all to no avail. I even sent the PCIII back to dynojet, they checked it said it was fine, gave it all the most recent software upgrades, and sent it back. It was great till I got caught in the rain again. Im at a loss. I'll call Jamie and Fuelmoto, talk to him about it, and see what I can do. Other than that I guess Im screwed until I get the money for a SERT.
