Flush-Mount Fuel Cap and Gauge Kit
#11
There 'have' been quite a few reports of problems with them.
Between the LED's failing and the gas cap coming apart on people its a wonder anyone wants to get a set.
But they do look nice that's for sure.
As far as the accuracy is concerned, I don't think any of the gages made for a Harley work worth a damn.
I have one of the LED units on mine, but its the one that looks like the stock gas cap. Works fine, but its just as inaccurate as the stock one was.
It never shows a full tank even when I'm still at the gas pump and its always turning the last LED red after only about 100 miles when there's still a little over 1/2 a tank left.
Because everyone seems to have the same problem no matter what gage they have installed or how many different ones are put into the same bike. I'm starting to wonder if the gauge isn't the real problem, but the sending unit putting out erroneous signals.
The idea of a gage that doesn't work right bothers me and I'm tired of people telling me I have a red light on the bike all the time when there isn't anything really wrong. Next winter when there's snow on the ground and I can't ride it. I'm going to try taking things apart to figure out how it works. If I'm lucky maybe I can figure a simple way to fix it to read a bit more accurately.

There has been lots of negative reports on this Mod. However, I have had the set for over 6 months now with no issues, they work fine, and look even better, Before I bought the set for my bike i did a little (Not Much) homework and found out the HD Part# for my bike was 62818-06C
The "C" in the part number indicates they, (Harley) was/is aware of the fail rate of this particular upgrade. The "C" is the third revision, or reworking of this product, hopefully works better than the 06...or the 06B parts did. Interesting bit of fact: I just looked at HD Main Website and searched for the flush mount kits for my softail...it came up just fine but the part number has changed to: 62818-06D Yup.."D"
Looks like the MC is aware....
