Two Q's
 

1st is the 05 Deluxe has 36,000 miles and is in need of new suspension.
What do u xperts recomend?
I went to one susp. shop, and he wanted to rebuild the front end with new valving inserts and such for around $800-$900.
Replace the rear shocks for another $700. Seems xtreem to me.

How 'bout some progressive springs in front for an option?

And replacing the rears myself, is it difficult?

or things I haven't thought yet.

I do 90% of the maintance myself so I'm not afraid of wrenching.

2nd is the last few days a smell of raw gas is coming from the bike, but I can't locate the source. No seepage or wet anywhere.

Any Ideas?

Progressive 422s are less than $400 and take less than 2 hours to install. I don't know about their front kits, but I believe they can be had for around $100, and I hear they're a pretty simple job too.

Are you carbed or fuel injected?

OEM rear shocks about $50, Progressive around $250 on ebay.

two Qs and zero As from me sorry

It's injected. Just notice the stench yesterday, and just sniffed around the tank and felt gas lines and such. This morning I double checked the gas cap. Came home for lunch and the aroma was still present, and still can't seem to find the source.
Tonight I'll fire it up and really investigate, with the garage door open!


OEM rears OK, or can aftermaket shocks be that much better? I got 30,000 + outta the OEMS, so I guess that ain't too bad.
Just wondering if there is a better ride option, when we travel! Cheaper than buying her the Roadglide!

I've got Progressives on the back of my bike. I'm a little over 1" lower than stock, and the ride is substantially better than stock (but nowhere near a Road Glide).

No clue on the gas smell.

If you got that much out of the OEMS, I would stick with them and change them yourself, from the manual it doesnt look hard.

As for the front, I have no clue.

gas smell? 3 spots.... check your gas cap then your crossover line (bad connection or cracked old line) and last but not least your line just under the left side of your tank (maybe quick connect failure or bad old line). Oh yea make sure you washed your hands may be gas on them when you filled your tank last nite.....As for rear shocks you can get them cheap from e-bay. Progressive does make a nice set-up for your front...good luck

Good news, it's not the bike that smells. Got home checked everything mentioned by BnC09D(thanks). Pulled the bike out of the garage, covered it and aired out the garage. Closed the garage up waited 15-20 minutes, faint smell still there. Both wife and I sniffed high and and couldn't locate the source. Lifted the cover on the bike, no smell at all.
Finally a friend stop by, and within 5 min found the source.
The fricken Crapsmen lawn tractor!!!!! It's parked on the other side of the garage, and both of us sniffed both bikes, cars, and lawn equipment, but didn't catch it.
Just cause it stinks in the corner dosen't mean the corner stinks!


Damn, I thought I had a real stumper for you people.
