Question Crossbones Front Fender Removal - Help

Ok, so ya know when you take something apart then go to put it back together and your like... how'd that go again?

Anyway had my front wheel off and am going to put it back on w/o the front fender and I have a question for those of you that have done this.

What do you do about the spot where the fender strut used to go?
There is a wave washer there against the inside of the rocker but with out the fender strut there is nothing pressed against it. There is a sleeve that is inside of the fender strut, but its really in there. I'd hate to try and force it out cause I'd probably just break it. Do I need to put a sleeve in there?
So it should go: Wave washer, fender strut, spacer, [wheel]
...but now I'm short the fender strut.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I'll bump you up and maybe someone will chime in...

I have not done it yet....
But have asked the same question to several different XB guys...
some have left the are vacant.. others have ground down the support.. just leaving the part that covers the axle....

I ran mine without the strut or sleeve for a couple of thousand miles with no problem. I left the wave washer on (wasn't paying close attention during re-assembly). I didn't seem to do anything but ride back and forth, I would recommend leaving the wave washer off unless you can find a spacer to fill the gap left by the strut removal. I couldn't find a spacer that would fit, let me know if you do.

I am going to pull the front fender on my '09 XBones and from what I can see it looks like you only need to add a spacer to take up where the support was (?) - will know for certain when I pull it apart - thought I saw a spacer for this at the Harley dealer the other day

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I am going to cut and grind my strut to put in their just for looks. I may end up painting it if the spot thats cut looks a little funky.

Done, took about 20-30 minutes cause I only got a dremel to cut with, used my grinder to finish it up and 'hid' the gound part behind the rocker.

Phase 1: Check

if you ever want to reinstall your finder that strut may become a very expensive spacer. Any machine shop should be able to fix you up. if your handy you could make your spacer any solid material should do(alum-steel-brass) you could try what im gonna try -plaster mold of strut fll mold with jb-weld sand it paint it drive like you stole it
