Default Softail Deluxe....Whitewall tires

Im sure this has been discussed before but what gives with these tires. I am at just over 13k and my rear tire is already bald again. Is anyone having the same issue or is it just me. I take it very easy on my bike and havent done any burnouts with it either. If anyone has used another brand tire with better results please advise

thanks

That is about the life of a tire on a bike.

Sounds like you got good mileage on that tire actually. I'm at about 8K on mine and they're already telling me I'll need a new one by 10K. I've also been asking about tires on here and I'm starting to lean toward trying that new Metzler tire. It's supposed to be a little longer lasting than their old ones yet still a little stickier than the Dunlops.

im actually at about 15k miles on my bike....my first tire(the original) was replaced at 6992
I am at about the same for the second tire. At $275 installed at the dealer, thats a bit pricey or is this normal. if it is than ill just go on about my biz and deal with it

Default Deluxe (or any Softail) rear tire

It's actually not "burnouts" that probably take out your rear tire - it's braking. Softies carry a lot of their weight on the rear tire and it's easy to just press on the pedal to stop. Don't. use the front brake more. Better braking, less chance of locking the rear up and more even tire wear

Good advice. Also engine braking.

Not to hijack the thread but I agree with not using the rear break. Use the front brake only to stop unless in emergency braking situations then just place your foot on the rear brake without consiously pressing. With the weight transfer youll sympothetically press the brake giving you maximum braking.

And back to topic, I get about 10k out of a rear. $275 doesnt sound bad at all for a installed tire.

7,000 miles out of a rear tire seems on the low side to me. You should be getting around 10k a tire. Do you check your tire pressure regularly? I know that a few PSI low isn't really noticable but can decrease you tire life a good bit. Just .02 worth.
