Vance Hines "like" pipes?
I have a 2001 FXSTDI and I love the VH big radius pipes but I just don't have that kind of coin. are there others out there that look and sound like the VH but you're not paying for the name?
|
I think-but not sure-that they make Cobra's pipes as well. The prices are pretty close so I don't know if you'll really be saving any money. Got to look for specials on eBay and such.

Put a wanted to buy ad in the softail classifeds right here at HDF....Theres bound to a be a BR owner who has been thinking 2-1 but needs a lil' help to get there.
So you could feasibly help "Him" to help...YOU!! Or watch E-Bay for a lightly used set? Like these:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HARLE...Q5fAccessories |
Big Growl - $150 (no shields) on ebay. Samson Big Guns copies. Low throaty sound. Loud as hell without baffles. Heat shields run around $75-100. Never run them but love my Samsons. Used Big Radius I have seen as cheap as $250 on ebay.
|
Yeah. I got my BR's on ebay, new for $200. Takes a while to shop around but deals are out there to be had.
|
I've got a set of BR's that I'm looking to get rid of. I'm one of those individuals looking to go 2:1 and in need of help. The only problem is the lower heat shields aint so pretty anymore. The lower one is scraped up on the bottom and the top one has a stain left behind by some melted plastic. But those can be replaced. For how much, I have no idea. They also have o2 ports. If you want them pm me.

I knew it somebody looking to make a change....Now I see why I forgot!!

Another vote for Big Growl pipes. They are single walled and may turn a bit at the head. Not a big deal, IMO. If your bike is tuned right and you coat the inside of the pipes with spray paint and then a coat of grease, they won't turn too much. This bike has them on it....Notice no blueing.

Well I was going to let them go pretty cheap but I didn't realize the heatshields would cost so much so it might not even make sense to buy mine.
Also for better or worse vze1mk7d = Theo. |
Just thought of something, I don't know how your bike looks, but you could always paint the shields black or you could wrap the pipes. Just a thought.
|
others may look close but the sound won't be there...
V&H's are on 75% of the bikes here, nothing sound the same... |

i found out you get what you pay for. the chrome is great on the V&H, the hookers are not and even if the pipes look the same the sound is not. i check the used bike lot to hear what they sound like before buying and my old bike had the V&H over the screamin eagle.
|
When I did the cams this spring I really thought about 2-1's, like I said above 75% here are V&H's, I red all I could on D&D's and thought that was the way to go,, Then I red the dragging issue and not sure if they were tooooo louuuud, for this ole Gramps...and Grandma.. so thats the reason I stayed with what we have and like ,, Rush 2'', they just purrr when putt-ing and roar when nailed... with the deeeeep rumble at idle and cruising I just stayed with them, knowing that I left 5 or so TQ and HP on the table....still I am happy with the results of the cams....

Just got some v&h pipes for 200 off the classifieds section

I noticed that Hooker was shutting down their inventory of motorcycle parts and got my set of Trouble makers for 130$ straight from their warehouse. When I recieved them they were for a carbd bike so I had to cut and weld O2 bungs in. Price of welding and pipes, I think I came out ahead. They look just like the V&H, and sound just as good IMO. My buddy has VH on his Bob, very similar look but mine point straight at the pavement. I blow a strip of shit away (leaves, gravel, water etc) on the drive way, I like it!
http://www.holley.com/27401-3HKR.asp Just looked, seems they still have em at a steal of a price. I love mine. Looks like they are steadily getting thinned out. |

^ agreed, Ive only found one other guy on the forum that has em, and have NEVER seen em on the road. Lots of VH, Python, etc, but no Hookers . . . . until you get to that side of town that is, and they typically scatter like cock roaches. :icon_angel:

twisted12, thanks for the websight. those look great and I don't like having what everyone else has, thus my Deuce. I don't see where I can find my make and model and I'd not want to order them for a "softail" and they not fit. any advice? thanks to all for your advice it's good stuff man.
|
Yea man, that model selector is messed up, wants you to pick Ford and shit, went through that when I got mine. That link that I sent to you takes it straight to your motor and shows em on a deuce. I would call them to verify, they have great customer service. The only thing I would want to make sure of on your deuce is the mounting positions to the rear of the frame. There is a long flat washer that accepts two bolts/per pipe to secure em. Just let them know you motor and that its a deuce and they'll hook you up. Enjoy those Hookers man. - cant resist.

I'd like to put one of those Big Radius pipes on mine :icon_headbang:
|
One last thing - Look at the part numbers below. When ordering mine I got the wrong set because the description was confusing to me. They stack their numbers by motor, not model year. Thats why I had to weld in O2 bungs for my EFI. You should be sure if you call them to ask whether or not they will have O2 bungs - carbd = no bungs - EFI = you want those bungs already on the pipes.
Hope this isnt confusing. 27401-3HKR – Slash Cut, Softail®, 80”+ (91-06) 27400-3HKR – Slash Cut, Softail®, 96”+ (91-06) |

Wasnt really lookin at the pipes!! :icon_naughty: :icon_naughty: :icon_naughty: Jk couldnt resist HAHA |
Dude you're right that site is a little messed up. anyone with the Hooker pipes, have you had them for long? I'm worried about them being "cheap" and bluing or anything? thanks again dude this may solve my "wanting" but having no money need :) even if I had the coin for V&H $700 pipes I'd have a hard time justifying the cost.
|
Ive had my Troublemakers on for about 4 thousand miles. They look as good now as they did the day I put em on. Hookers were not always this cheap. Now that they are dropping their inventory from what the guys at Hooker told me, they have dropped out their price to move em out. They are still a really nice pipe. If you do your research, you will notice that a lot of people out there seem to have not received the memo, more likely, are hoping that YOU have not received the memo. Take for example DK from the link below. That will open some eyes.

Dude, I checked out the hooker web site then did some reserch this morning. twisted125 you are the man :- ) those troublemaker pipes are a high quality and for $177 you can't go wrong. I called Hooker and they are out of the Scallop cut for my bike but they have 17 sets of the Slash cut left in stock. So I just told the guy, "add to cart" :- ) My new pipes are on they're way. there was no way I'd be able to pay $700 for a set of pipes. thanks man and ride safe.
|
hells yea man, glad it worked out. Its crazy that buying direct from them is 177 and these other clowns still have em up around 700. I love my slash cuts. they point straight at the pavement and make em sound sweet. Totally different having the sound bounce up more towards you. Ride safe and often. you'll love those pipes.

Okay with the install of these new Hooker Troublemaker pipes I'm going to need to use a PC111, H-D EFI Race Tuner, or something like that correct? I currently have SE11 slip-ons with no baffle that were on the bike when I bought it in Feb so I have no idea what has been done in that area. sorry but I'm catching up with the A/F mix knowledge. Any suggestions as to the best but less expensive solution would be great.
