X Bones: Some stuff I have been doing to my Springer front end...
I still have quite a few things in the works, and I was going to wait until it was all done, but it's 15 degrees out there today, and I'm bored so what the heck.
I copper plated the springs, antiqued them, and I clear coated them. Usually I don't clear coat because I like the patina to evolve, but with the springs, I cant work with them on the bike...and I really don't want to take them off again. It took some help from a friend at his shop.
I also replaced the risers with the bronze dog bones I had been working on. and changed out the brake pedal for a knurled bronze one that matches my grips and shifter. I added a brass fire extinguisher too.
New brake pedal.

For the damper, I am even considering some green. Mostly black with some dark green specks, like you might see on an old church. Then again, it may look like crap, but the best part about these patinas is that they polish right off if you have the right chemicals.
I think I'm going to have to do something to dull that clear coat though.

I just dont have the equipment to do my own plating......yet! One day I will.
I always tell the plater not to clear coat it. Sometimes they assume the buyer wants it clear coated. Then when I get the stuff back from the plater, I treat it with various chemical compounds to make it look aged. It is a lot of trial and error at first. I practice on copper pipes that I buy at home depot. If I really like the way it comes out, I can always clear coat it afterwards, like I did with the springs.
