Fatboy won't start
Bike won't start. Backfires out exhaust. I've put fresh gas, cleaned carb, new plugs, swapped out ignition module and coil. Still not starting. Has good fire. Cams are in time. swapped out crank position sensor. still backfires. any suggestions?

Have you tried replacing the plug wires?
|
Remove the air filter and look down the carb throat and see if it squirts gas when you twist the throttle. Could be the gas petcock is clogged up. If it is getting gas and spark it is time for a compression test. This will help you determine if the cams really are in time, or if you have a valve stuck open. Good Luck.

Pull your fuel line and see if your vacum petcock is working.Use a mighty vac or other source of vacum to test.

try checking the boot behind the carb. Intake gasket. And make sure u got the jets in the carb good and clean

plug wires crossed at coil? getting fuel it carb? steve

Just curious, is this the first start after a long winters slumber in storage? If so, did you use a fuel stabilizer?
Just trying to get the whole story and big picture. |
I have new plugwires. Cleaned carb and am getting fuel to it. Checked choke and getting fuel through carb. Was ridden two weeks prior. I have not done compression check yet. Thanks for the help.

Although it seems complicated a motor has to have compression, ignition, gas & air and exhaust at the right timing, if you have all that it has to run!
My guess is the carb isn't getting the air it needs. Pull the carb and blow all the ports out and I'll bet you'll be back on the road. |
Got the Fatboy running. The gasket between carb and intake was the problem. Never thought it would cause such a problem like I experienced. Thanks for the suggestions and the help.
