Default help with stripped fender strut bolt

Any ideas with how to get a stripped fender bolt out - its one of the four cheap Harley bolts on the 2006 + softails that connects the strut horns for the rear fender to the frame. Do I have to grind out or is there a trick?

Cheers

S

You can try a set of easy outs. You drill a hole in the bolt that is matched to a reverse screwdriver bit and turn it out. Another trick is use a dremel to cut a strip in the bolt head so you can use a flat blade screw driver to get it out.

tracey87 nailed it. but that oem locktite is some crazy tuff stuff. I would try the dremel first, use a big screw driver and apply all the inward force that I could muster while breaking it loose. good luck

Ok, wasn't aware of the loctite. Only thing that may help that is some heat.

the oem locktite is how all those p.o.s torx screws get stripped. I swear it is some type only the moco gets. its white and damn near a weld joint.

Whey you try the dremel method and flat screwdriver: Heat up the torx bolt with a soldering iron, then hit using impact driver

just be sure you have the corret size bit, push in hard with one hand on top of the ratchet so the bit doesnt try to "climb" out and apply steady force with the other hand. they will fight you all the way out. I have replaced almost all the cad plated hardware on my bike with chrome and I cant remember one bolt that ever got to the point where I could turn it with my fingers. It isnt as bad as it may sound but the correct tools and a little patience will save alot of headaches.

Maybe try these...

These are Bolt-Outs. I bought a small set and have used them a few times on some of the larger bolts. All I did was lightly tap one on the head of the bolt and bang it grabs and comes right out.

Drilling and grinding near my fender wouldn't be an option for me...

Just went through this on my '03 FLSTSI. I tried the easy outs - no luck, wouldn't budge.
Tried heat and the dremel-slot trick - no luck. By then, the head was so mangled I couldn't do much else with it. I sectioned the head off in 4 cuts with the dremel and was able to grab a few threads with a pair of vice grips. Got some leverage on the vice grips after heating again and I was able to turn it loose. The bolts are crap and the Loctite they use is ridiculous for that application. I ended up doing the same procedure for the other 3, minus the easy-outs and slotting. Spent at least 2 hours that I'll never get back.
