There are some beautiful rides on this thread. I love the looks of the hard bags.
I only attach mine when needed. I sometimes use a swing arm bag for short runs.

I have seen touring style lower fairings like on the OP's bike. How are they making this happen? Will a touring engine guard fit on a Softail, or will the lowers fit on certain Softail engine guards? This is one of the things I miss from my last 2 Touring bikes. On a 2003 Fatboy now. Any help appreciated. Not really looking for the leatherpros version at this point.

Gotta figure out what I have to do to get a batwing fairing on the springer front end, probably going to be so cost prohibitive I'll end up scratching it and going to a bar mounted screen. Also gotta score a longer rear fender and have it painted soon.

I been thinking about the same thing for my Slim. My understanding is you would need to modify a touring engine guard to fit.
