Default Derby cover

I was going to change the oil in my primary and I cannot get the screws in the derby cover loose. I have an '08 fatboy and the dealership did the 1000 mile service. I changed my own oil at 5000 miles and now close to 10,000 and can't get any of the screws to break loose. Infact I have twisted off 2 t27 torx wrenches off. Now I know these were not high dollar wrenches but I don't think they should be breaking. I called the dealership where I bought my bike and they are the ones who serviced it and they said there must be some kind of corrosion on the screws. How can something get corrosion on it that is sealed in syn 3 oil. They also said I should have pulled the cover off at 5000 miles, apparently to keep from corroding up. I can't help but think this is a bunch of crock. What do ya'll think , am I wrong.

Sound's like the dealer put permanent locktite on them during the 1000 mile service. You also shouldn't break a torx before you break one of the screws. I'd try a better grade of tool and maybe a little heat.

I've seen derby covers not removed until the primary chain ate a hole in the primary cover...and the screws came out with no problem. Try riding the bike to get it up to operating temp...and use a quality wrench.

Get the Advanced Auto parts Torx socket set while your out riding getting it up to temp. That set out did my snap-on set. Blew my F-Ing mind as the set costs as much as a single snap-on Torx.

The screws are steel and the primary is aluminum. Given time there is a reaction between the different metals. That is most likely why they are very tight. Heat may help, also a solid hammer hit can jar things loose. Careful though. And the reason you should have had the cover off at 5k is to adjust the clutch. Your dealer is telling you that you didn't do a "proper" service.

They put loctite on it I bet. Heat and good wrenches and maybe a thump witha rubber mallet. Let us know what you figure out.

I drained the oil before I started to take out the screws to save time. The bike was hot because I just got finished riding it to bring up the temp to drain better.
