Default For the Crossbone and Springer owners

Has anyone taken the shock absorber off of the front of the springer front end? I have been thinking about doing it but am curious about the ride. Most of the old school springers dont have the shock absorber, so just thinking.... If the springers of old rode fine without them, would good logic be that the new springer front end would ride fine without it? But I know since it is there it must be there for a reason.. Just thinking out loud and looking for a few opinions from you guys. Thanks

You can get them with or with out in lots of aftermarket springer set ups. What would you do with the mounting tabs? I think they might look a little funny with out the shock in them.

I am swapping mine out for a black one so it doesnt' chrome up the joint to much...

I thought about that, if I like it then I can install the RSD headlight bracket relocation with a spacer in between the mounting tabs and a different bolt. Or drill out the bracket and mount it in between the tabs. The other mount I can use another spacer or hack it off. Dunno havent made any exact decisions about it yet, just more of a thought than anything else. Thanks for the reply though.

You can do it sure. The ride will be more of a glide feel and will hop/pogo more. The bad is the front tire is more likely to cup due to the front wheel hop (pogo feel).

I was thinking the same thing, if you could just fill in the gaps it would probably not even be noticable. Blacked out nut(s), spacers or small pipe would probably do it. Wouldn't be much to take it out for a week or two, snap a couple of pics and take a few rides to see how it feels.

The pre shock era springers used adjustable sliding plates to control the "pogo" effect

I think it would look funny without the shock.

I took the shock out and rode it down the road. I really didnt like the feel. I had that pogo feel to it. It doesnt take long at all to take out, so pop it out and try it. That is what I did. As for the RSD headlight braket it is designed to fit a Headwinds headlight not the Harley headlight. It will work just need some washers and rubber bushings.
