Default New tires...twitchy?

Hi friends,

I got two new HD ww tires put on yesterday at the dealeship. I thought the bike felt kinda twitchy in the curves at highway speed on the 50 mi. trip home.

Is this normal because the tires have no 'flatness' or am I just used to the feel of my 10,000 mile old tires? It just felt like I was on a tight rope. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I felt there is any kind of balance or shimmy issue, the bike rode very smooth and felt solid, just...every little move I made seemed magnified from what I'm used to.
TIA

Brian

Brand new tires are a little slick due to the releasing agent used during tire manufacturing. Just go easy for a couple hundred miles or so.

I was told when I had new tires put on that they need 100 miles or so to get scuffed up and that they could be slick especially in wet conditons. Run down a few gravel roads to scuff them up a little. After 100 miles they should feel better.

Not to fond of Dunlops though- just my opinion. I went with the Metzlers.

I was having a similar issue with mine after the dealer slaped on some new rubbers for me. Took me over 500 miles for it to feel 'right' again

Take it easy on new tires for a bit lest you hit the ground!

Cool! thanks guys, I figured it was just because they're new, but nice to know for sure. You would think the stealer would tell you these things...hmmm

I'd also check the inflation pressure once the tires cool down. In my experience, most installers over-inflate the tires. Since you've got H-D Dunlops, you can go with the factory recommended pressure. Avons (what I run) like ~ 40lbs, and Metzlers even more (or so I'm told).
