Default Uncomfortable Springer

Sorry if the question has been asked before, but, I have a 1997 Springer FLSTS with stock handlebars. I am 5'7" and have no problem riding for the first 90 minutes or so. After that, the pain starts between my shoulder blades. I have tried to bring my buckhorn bars closer to me, but, they can only be adjusted downward. Does anyone have a suggestion on which bars might work? I have been looking at Wild 1, but the bars that might work are 36" apart---that seems too far for a short guy like me. ANY suggestions would be deeply appreciated as I have a 4,000 mile ride scheduled next month.

I dont have an answer yet. Im in the same boat as you- mine is a 2004 FXSTS and the handlebars are too far forward for me. Not an easy fix, seeings as Springer bars are different. Im adding a "dog-bone" to mine this Saturday - this will set the bars back a little bit, not sure if it will be enough but at least its something.

+1. I got my standart last year, and it came with the heritage mini apes. At first, i thought they are a little low and narrow, and usually swapping bars is the first thing I do when I get a new bike, but these bars are awesome.

I have the 13" Apes and love the feel. Maybe the mini apes would be better if you are used to having your arms down lower. I really love mine though. I'm 5'7" too.

Alex, I had the same issue w/ mine. It got so bad that it was hard to look to the left when I rode. I moved to 14" apes and, so far so good. You're having to reach forward and down w/ the stock bars (I'm 5'-9") too much. Some sort of reach seat and a way to get the bars closer maybe?

Perhaps cheapest and easiest would be a set of pull back risers.
