Thinking of Buying a 2009 Heritage Softail
Hi
I have a chance to pick up a 2009 Heritage Softail. Have not seen it in person. This has the 96ci motor. Do all these motors have compensator starting issues eventually? I asked the owner about issues like this with the bike and he said there is none bike is smooth no problems. I had a 2009 Road king with the 96 and gave me nothing but trouble starting like it was going to rip apart internally. Put new starter same thing Put a a baker comp and still had issues starting and ticking noise with only 11k. Really left a bad taste in my mouth about that motor., Bike has about 11k any input would be great... CLICK ON LINK hope it works

A 2009 Heritage will come with the problematic OEM compensator.
The good news is that in 2014, they came out with a final updated version of the Twin Cam compensator, and it has had far fewer issues than it's predecessors.
Should you buy that bike and have compensator issues with it, the current Screamin' Eagle Big Twin Comp kit will solve those issues.. It's part #40100061
