XiEDs will help, a lot. It's an inexpensive fix for the heat problem. Check the classifieds here. It seems there's always someone doing mods to their motor which makes the XiEDs unusable as they then will need a more expensive tuner. Or spend the money and get a tuner so the bike will get more fuel and run less lean = cooler running.
My wife has a 09 FLSTC with a pair of Rush Slip-ons. Everything else is stock. Bike is running hot. Added some heat shields, but she still complains. Been reading about remapping the fuel system. Called V&H about their FuelPak. Tech guy says their product was not designed to help a hot running (lean?) engine.. Any suggestions besides taking it to the stealer for a remap?
I bought my first Harley back in May after owning several other bikes over the years. It's an 07 Ultra Classic and it had V&H slip ons and and the rest was stock. When the Georgia heat gets over 85 it gets really uncomfortable if you sit still more than 2 minutes. I studied what to do for a month and finally decided to change to K&N air cleaner and a fuelpak. I finished yesterday and rode about 75 miles. The heat was significantly reduced. It still gets pretty warm compared to my other bikes but it's easily tolerable now. The increased performance put a big smile on my face too. I'm anxious to see what it does to my fuel mileage though.
+1 On the XIED's.. I have the stage 1 and a download. With the XIED's the front cylinder went from 260 to 240 and the rear went from 320 to 280.. It's enought to tell the difference. I need to buy a set for the wife's Deluxe. Shes starting to complain. But what else is new... Give them a try, there cheap enough.
Well...you definitely have a lean burn condition....
On a related note, my Xbones tends to "feel" hotter than any bike I've ever had. Not sure if it's running hotter or just the type of pipes and routing...but it seems like it could be a little cooler at stop lights and low low speed. I had not heard of the XIED's until I checked this thread out. Currently, I'm running a PCIII and in the near future upgrade to PCV...which use little "override" plugs for the OEM O2 sensors.
Does anyone know if the XIED's would benefit me if I am using PC3/5? Or would the PC just override the sensor input anyway? I suppose I could bump my fuel map at 0% throttle...
Exactly why I went with stg1 and SERT dyno tune when I did the 1k service.
dropped her almost 20*, 245 to 225
Then last yr I added the cams, that helped a bunch more. Now she runs 210-215 most of the time plus the added performance.....
