I have the x-pipes and one of my heat shields has a small surface rust spot starting on it. I figure thats just the start of problems so I have been thinking about painting them black. Any one done this and have pictures or any pros or cons with this idea. I'm open to suggestion or ideas. I got a good deal on these exhaust but I hate the sound of them. Not even sure I might get something else later down the road
Really you dont like the sound? You got the same pipes as I do in my sig? As for painting it ive heard some people use high temp RTV paint. I was thinking about re-chroming mine in black chrome. Where did you get the pipes and what do yours sound like? Cant believe you dont like the sound!

I got mine from a dealership threw ebay they had them someone ordered and never picked up I got them for 650 still in the box unopened. As for the sound as far as how to describe it they sound like a tin can to me no depth. IDK how to describe it really there much better without the baffles though but for 900 dollar exhausts I was a little let down

I'd have to describe mine as a deep sound. Ive ridden behind some baggers with big *** pipes and my bike has the same deep sound as they do. I can hear mine clear as day riding just to the right and slightly behind a bagger. I havent tried pulling the baffles yet but I know my dealership who installed them said they where some mean pipes for $900 and where impressed by the sound themselves when they put them on.
Im just wondering if they are some off brand or something. The dealership was saying different companies produce and ship out the Supertrapp pipes and whoever made mine took a really long time. But then again pipes do sound different when you're sitting right by them.
Another thing I just remembered is that you can basically wipe off oxidation by using a little water and aluminum foil. Just pour some water on the rusted part and wet some aluminum foil and scrub. Sounds crazy but it works I clean my side pipes on my Vette. It looks hazy afterwards but shines right back up with some polish. Thats if you still want to try the chrome for a while.

Sweet, Thanks for you input I appreciate it. Maybe it just Me lol I did have a guy on a sportster tell me how good it sounded a week or two back. I have my baffles out right now. And I have been polishing on that little rusty spot today and it got dark on me but the best I could tell with the light I got most of it off or if not the rest will come off

Sometimes my pipes dont sound the same to me and other times I think they're great. I wasnt sure how I would like the chrome with my blacked out X-bones look but its ok for now. The intake is chrome and its enough to give the bike some shine but still kinda has that bobber look as well. But I think in the future I might try the black chrome on everything myself. I love the way its a deep black but I cant describe it as glossy... its weird looking sometimes but I like it. If you do try to paint them let me know how it goes. I do know those pipes get a hell of a lot hotter than my old stockers.

Yea they are a lot hotter. I wrapped mine with a black DEI wrap kit and it looks ok and cuts way down on the heat. It's too hot here in South Carolina during the summer anyway. I'll get you a picture of them how I wrapped mine. I just did it last week so I don't know the long term but for now I like the wrap.
