Ok. Here we go. If you take a look in my signiture you will see my new toy.
Its stock for now. Keeping with the pissed off fighter jet look, I want to avoid a lot of chrome and gloss. Being former military, I love the flat black and would like to keep it uniform throughout the bike as much as possible.
Being my first bike and Harley, I am not sure how many different options I have for mods and where to look for them.
First thing I need is a detachable windshield. Doesn't have to be flashy or large...just big enough to help with some of the wind blast and make the longer rides a little easier.
I have a buddy that got his windshield from a wrecked bike. Small scuff mark on it in the lower corner...but it does its job.
Obviously, pipes are a must. Looking into the Vance and Hines big radius 2 into 2 in black. Question is, what intake to couple with it? Arlen Ness or Screamin Eagle? Thoughts on this....experience?
And finally, I want a good engine guard. Again, not flashy. Preferrable flat black and not gloss or chrome. I want something smaller that wont stand out too much but will do its job and function properly. Would also be nice to put some highway pegs on it. Any suggestions on where to look, what brand, etc.etc...
Everything else such as controls, floor boards, etc.etc.. are not important at this time. They will come in due time and will all depend on what I find when I find it. But for now, my big 3 on the wish list are pipes, windshield, and engine guard. And maybe a small saddlebag to keep rain gear in on longer hauls.
Thanks in advance for any input you can provide. Little long winded...had to get all the thoughts out before my ADHD kicked in and sent me back to the garage...
I got the VH big radius 2 to 2 pipes...sound great to me but I heard a bike with the VH radius 2 to 1 pipes and I like the sound much better-more throaty....plus you gain a few HP with 2 to 1. Both are available in flat black. I got the lindby multi bar engine guard because it has foot rests on top...very handy, but it only comes in gloss black...i have not seen a flat black engine guard...but it's easy to scuff it and paint it flat black and definitely a good idea on the windshield. I take mine on and off all the time for short vs long rides...exceedingly convenient. I would suggest considering new handle bars...almost no one, including me, finds the stock bars comfortable....I got street slammer drag bars....very comfortable for me. ergonomically that's about all I have done-the seat, for me, is great. Aesthetically, the sky is the limit.
Hang on tight. I know you say these are the only mods you want to do right now, but.......looking on this forum will give you so many ideas, that your wallet might get lighter, faster than you think.
Hmmm...if you want a "pissed-off fighter jet look", I would slam it, pull the bitch seat off, along with the passenger pegs and reflectors, lose the football air cleaner (I personally like round and small so I can see more of the power plant), and go with all black pipes or black slip-ons, although I can't personally recommend the ones I own (V&H 2-2 BR), because they became all corroded even though they haven't even been on the bike for 2 years.
I would keep it simple and clean, but that's just me..
BTW: windshields cancel the coolness factor out of all other mods. LOL.
another thing to consider since you're a flat fan: I was surprised to find that a knurled black primary cover and gasket was less than 300 bucks....so I got one. Easy to change and IMO makes a huge difference in appearance (see sig pic)
You can get everything you want from HD. The quick release windsheild comes in gloss black hardware, V&H makes the best pipes (IMHO) and they all come in black. The 2-2 are the loudest. I went with the BSS to keep the neighbors and cops off my back but still get PLENTY of sound. And the HD mustache bar is smaller and will do the highway pegs nicely. As for a saddlebag...my recommendation is to get some quick release hardware and then you can put a sissybar on there for trips and take any size bag you might need on trips. But no matter which direction you go, you got a NICE bike there. Enjoy it!
Thanks for the input. I have been looking through all the HD accessories for most everything.
Wasn't sure if there was another supply source that can deliver the same product for a lower cost or maybe even a better product for the same cost.
I have already looked at everything. I am trying by best to hold out til Christmas. But everytime I walk into a dealer or check out the online catalog....I have to hide the wallet from myself.
I got 2-2 in black and love them! Easy to install too. I pulled the reflectors and bitch seat off and put a laydown license bracket and Kuryakyn LED tail on. I still want to slam it and put a seat on it to make my 16" apes look higher.
