Default brushed chrome part 2

OK, in my other post I asked a few questions about getting this look. I also did some research. You guys were on the money, except many folks suggested red scotchbright instead of green. I got a red pad which is marked as super fine. I practiced on one of the stock heatshields. I think the finish came out good, but am a little leary about doing it to my exhaust. I am going to attach a pic of my bike and a pic of the heat shield I did half of. Tell me what you guys think. I am possibly going to do this to the muffler on my exhaust which is the only part that is not wrapped. I would probably end up getting the end cap powder-coated black......Let me hear your thoughts....

I love it, man. on your bike it'll go great...of course, around here my nickname is "antishine" so I'm biased.

Haha... I did the same thing to my stock heatshield. It was hard to get a uniform finish without a lot of visible scratches. How does yours look?

And I think you should go for it. It will look good with the wrap and the other polished covers on the X-Bones.

Is that the same as removing the finish from a painted surface? Just sayin.

I found the key to not getting the scratched look is very tight, uniform circles, and using the red pad instead of green.....

No its not the same as removing a painted surface. I am essentially just dulling the finish, the end result looks to be pretty uniform....

I like the look. I'm just leary this will speed the rusting process. Not sure though

It looks like... very carefully micro-scratched chrome .... not of my taste.

But if you're doing it, do a little research on how will this affect the chrome deposit in your pipes, will they rust sooner? the pore in the chrome deposit will change for sure, who knows maybe when it heats now it will retain substances (like oil) staining them permanently.

that was one of my concerns too, I had another thread going about it before I tried it on the heat shield, a guy on there said he did it to a Sporty and had no issues....I am still on the fence....

Mimo, thank you for pointing out those concerns to me. I have now lodged some question to metal finishing "specialists" to see what they have to say.....
