2002 FI Fatboy won't start
 

Hi,
I posted this in the tech forum, but there are a lot more people here, so I thought I would try here. Two weeks ago, I bought a 2002 FI fatboy. It ran great, and I trailered it home. I started it up a few times over last two weeks, and it started no problem. Well today, it was almost 60 here, so i was going to take it to the DMV to get it tilted and licensed. Well, it wouldn't start. It cranked over strong, it just wouldn't fire. I didn't hear the high pitched whine of the fuel pump when I turned on the ignition. I also checked for a spark, and couln't get one. I checked all the fuses, and they were fine. Am I missing something, or do I have a big problem? I did some research here and found out how to get the codes from the speedo. If I did it right, I got a 12, 22 and a 32. I really don't want to believe I got a lemon. I hope somebody could help me figure this out. Thanks in advance

I'd start with the obvious - finding the fuel pump problem. It should be pressuring the line. Sounds like you do not have a manual - get one.

Yep I would be looking at the fuel sending unit I believe that is code 32

There should be a Fuel Pump fuse. Check that.....

Was the run/off switch in the run potion?
12 Current System relay coil high/shorted
22 Current MAP sensor high
32 Current Rear cylinder combustion intermittent

Probably caught a fatal virus from being trailered... sometimes they recover, sometimes they don't. Check all your electrical connections... then check them again, especially the battery terminals and the ground cable. Loosen them... move them around... re-tighten them. Same with fuses... pull them... inspect... put back in firmly.

ya fuel pump should whine as it pressurises the line! id ck grounds and fuses.

Nothing yet. I gave up last night. I will grab some beer on the way home from work today, and give it another shot. I checked all the fuses, and they were good. I will check all the wires for loose connections , and go from there. this is my first fuel injected bike, so this is all new to me. Thanks for all the help

Also clean all the connections for the battery as they could be corroded too. I am also thinking to unplug the relay (by the fuses) and check it for corrosion. According to the nubmers you psoted the first one is the coil. Make sure the spark plug wires are firmly on the coil and plugs. And of course remember it could always be a battery that does not have enough juice as well. If you have a multi meter check the voltage of the battery and let us know what it is. It should be at least 12. We'll help you get it sorted out.
