I want to put a digital speedo/tach on a Fat Boy Lo, want to transfer my mileage at time of installation... do you know how it's done? i hear some have a data wire to download mileage at time of installation and others said i have to order it from the factory with the mileage i want... here the one i want to buy...thanks for your help..

 

As far as I can figure it out,

For 2010 and earlier, you order through the dealer and it gets delivered with your actual mileage. (guess the dealer will check the mileage on your bike) as the total mileage is stored in the speed/tach.

On 2011 models, the update to actual mileage is done at the dealership because the total mileage resides in the ECM.

 

Plus one. Not sure if its in the ECM or somewhere else in the CAN... nevertheless...you are right.

I went through 3 factory units...and quit trying after the third one....HD did a very poor job of function integration. They know about the issues...but since they invested in CAN Bus....the could not care less. I would stick with factory speedo and rig up an alternative.

 

I just put one on my '07 FLSTC. Ordered it throught the dealer and they took my mileage down and put it on the order. The mileage is on the unit when it arrives. So far I've had no problems but I've only had it on the bike for about two weeks.
