I think you've got a pretty good start on something for limited use. With the other nay sayers in the group I think support on the bottom is a necessity for a full load and roads that are lumpy. I have the RK Classic bags on my Fatboy and even with the support of the full frame from CV I've hit a few frost heaves that I had to stop and rearrange. Course if I'd of been paying better attention I wouldn't have been going 90 through them, and I still think I'm riding a shovelhead so pack too many tools. My .02 is if you're going long range over various surfaces get the full mounting system. When just needing them for a light load around town your system will be great. Plus if you want to take the mounts off there's only three bolts per side that would take you maybe 10 minutes to take off.
