I am deployed right now and my bike will be waiting for me when I get home. I will be waiting on a Fatboy Lo in denim black. I am wondering what the what cosmetic looks the lower rocker box housing provide. Any other tips on blacking out my bike would be appreciated. I am going to get a custom POW/MIA paint job on it so it's only fitting to do the rest in wrinkle black. We have to do all we can to show respect for those that can not ride anymore!
Just remember, if you buy black powder coated engine covers from HD for your engine, they will not match. The texture matches the NightTrain but nothing else. The bikes that come with blacked out engines on the show room floor, same thing if you look at them. The covers do not match the rest of the engine.
This is why I haven't bought any for my bike. Why spend hundreds of dollars for covers from HD that do not match? I realize that most people do not even notice, but it drives me insane. Especially when they are selling bikes right off the floor like this.
If you want it to look right, make sure you do the whole motor the same.
I would steer you away from using a "wrinkle" finish on the engine. I think you will find it retains a lot of dirt and is the hardest finish to keep clean.
My FB Lo has a wrinkle inner primary and that part of the engine is always a bitch to get clean. And I am by no means a clean freak with my bike.
Flat go for it... Wrinkle, got to raise the red flag.
namreh617 Thank you for your service. If am home when you get back from deployment I would love to give you a welcome home hand shake and buy ya a few rounds. I like the POW/MIA Idea. I have a POW/MIA Derby cover and points cover made by Mountain Machine, they do great work. Enjoy your new bike and stay safe over there Brother. Save your money on the MOCO black parts you can get any thing you want powder coated black for much less. http://www.mountainmachineandmotorcy.../Military.html
