What's A Good Touring Seat?
The stock seat on my '06 Deluxe is ok as a solo tourer but leaves everything to be desired for two up touring. I'm not going to put bags on the bike but use a T-Bag and the Sissy Bar (HD PN 53618-05) & Softail Deluxe backrest.
What are some reccomendations for a replace seat? It could be just the Pillion or the entire Driver/Passenger package. I would like to stay wiht the nostalgic theme if possible. Wonder what your expereince has been in this area. Thanks, D |
I have a LePera Maverick seat and it is one of the most comfortable seats I've ever sat on. It has a deep dish for back support. I've never done anything but a quick sit on the rear seat but my girl friend says it is great. When I first picked up the bike, I did a couple of 6 - 8 hour days on it and after getting off I couldn't even tell I had been on a bike.

I'd get a Mustang catalog. Their stuff is really great.

I have both a LePera maverick and a mustang touring seat for my 06 FB. I found the LePera fine for short trips, but the wife was not completely happy with it, although a lot better than stock. So late last year got a mustang touring seat with drivers backrest. I love it and she loves it. Anytime we are going to being putting on more than 300 miles a day the mustang goes on. While the LePera does have some back support the backrest is way better. The wife also likes the wider seat pillion on the mustang as well. Allows her to adjust better while on the road. Both are great seats. Got the LePera at a swap meet and the Mustang off Ebay. I would say try to find one used as it is a expensive endeavor to find the right one if you buy new, and seats are not one fits all type of deal. Good luck, by the way I am 6 foot 185 and the wife is 5'7" and 130 for reference.

Mustang. I put one on a '99 Fat Boy I had and rode 5983 miles in two weeks. It was great!

The one I was born with?

kzoo - that's part of the problem.
The one my wife was born with does not match the stock (8 in wide) pillion very well. Most women have the same issue with bicycle seats. Women's pelvic bones are farther apart than Men. The stock pillion is ok if you're not going to be on the bike for more than an hour (or your significant other is young and tolerant of your biker ways!) but for a decent ride, it just doesn't work. Ironspirit - Which model Mustang and did you have a passenger???? Thanks for all the help. This would make an interesting "project" for the Forum to capture seat experiences.... purely subjective of course. D |
I've had a 1 piece Mustang on mine four 7+ years and both my wife and I have been pleased with the additional milage we can ride without needing to stop and rest the butts.
