Well we did it. 2012 Heritage Classic. We rode the 2011 and 2012 back to back and did for whatever reason feel the difference.

Anyway, he-who-said-that-he-didn't-want-another-red-bike changed his mind the second he saw the ember/merlot combination (it really is gorgeous) so the color ended up not being an issue.

We pick it up next weekend. Think I might be a little bit excited????

Thanks to all for the responses.

Congrats! Post some pics when you get it. Before I saw your last post, I was going to say, get the one that feels right to you and forget about model years, etc. Sounds like you did that and came out with a winner. Good luck!

I bought my '09' Heritage when the '10s' were hitting the floor. You can get a deal on the year old one. I saved about $1000 doing this and they were exactly the same, color and all. But, I'd think the color would mean more than the powertrain.

With the Softails for 2012 vs 2011 Id defiantly go with the 2012 and get the Security package that includes ABS.

Having owned 3 HD before and now with a 2011 with ABS IMO ABS is so far superior to standard braking that its worth it for safety . I never though it was a big deal on a bike but now Ive had my FLTRX for about 1500 miles and given the choice Id never ride without it if I have a choice.

The 103 is a strong pulling motor ans stock Id bet it will out perform a Stage 1 96, and every one ends up doing a Stage 1 eventually so why not have a 103 over a 96. My 103 stock going by "seat of the pants dyno"was just as powerfull as my Stage 2 95 in my Fatboy and now that I did a Stage 1 on the 103 its stronger.

Only reason I can see to buy the 2011 is if you can get super deal or like the 2011 colors better. Or there is not any significant changes, like with my FLTRX , I got a 2011 with the Power Pak and ABS so its the same as the 2012 with the security and ABS option and I got it for almost 2500 less than a 2012.

A couple of weeks ago I demo'd both a stock 2011 Softail Deluxe and a 2009 FLSTC with Stage 1 and true duals. As much as I enjoyed riding that new Deluxe, I ended up choosing the FLSTC. As others have said, it's always better to get what you want, what you like, and what works best for your needs...

The pics on the HD website don't do those colors justice (I am, admittedly, a red freak). Saw them at the store on Friday and they were beautiful. Even better out in the sunlight. Bought it on Saturday. Sweet bike.

Thanks to all who posted in this thread - I was on the fence and you all pushed me

HEY!!! That's MY new bike (just picked it up today!!). Oh wait - I don't have white walls. I do believe I am in love all over again.

Here's a comment about the 103. I test road the Switchback and the Heritage today. I rode the Heritage first. Frankly, I didn't notice anything more "powerful" about it over my Street Bob. Totally different ride, yes, but I didn't quite get the fuss over the power. Then I rode the Switchback. Not sure if it was a "power" factor, or not but I definitely noticed on THAT bike the throttle was more "responsive", the bike more "peppy", than either my Street Bob, or the Heritage. BUT .. I was just hooked on the Heritage for overall comfort, ride and looks, even though it was the Switchback I originally was "checking out".

You have a beautiful bike!

I wasn't sure about the white walls but my options where white wall or wait. Easy decision - until I have to clean them!

I had an '07 and the fit on this is definitely different but for me it's better. I feel like I have more room (good) as well as higher (unsure - probably because it's just different.)

I'm told the windshield is 3" shorter but I honestly can't tell the difference.

Break in period sucks!
