CROSSBONES OWNERS, can you give some ideas on saddlebags for me?
#26
For other XBones owners looking at this thread and considering bags...
I am an owner that looked around before buying the Harley-specific bags for the CrossBones. Yes they are smaller than the Heritage bags (but larger than the Fatboy 'pony bags'). The best thing about the OEM bags are they are styled for the XB, look pretty good, and are not found on any other model (but I guess most Harley bags ARE model-specific)
Here are some things to consider when looking for bags and FITMENT.
1. The stock bags are medium sized because H-D assumes you are NOT changing your exhaust pipes. If you DID go with Duals, or Big Radius, or Street sweepers or ANY other pipe that does not have the high-mounted upper pipe, you MAY use MANY different bags now. You might consider a larger set if your pipes are non-stock.
2. The stock bags (uni-directioal) with the two straps made for the XB look best with the STOCK solo-seat configuration. If you no longer have that seat or often ride with a two-up seat installed, then you might prefer the Heritage-style bags or a larger non-Harley product (assuming the exhaust is non-stock)
3. The XB bags use a UNIQUE mounting plate! NOT the type of 'bars' used to mount bags on EVERY OTHER softail. Guess the engineers decided that us XB owners wouldn't like the product simplicity of the rest of the lineup, or the options, ha ha.
4. SOME of Harley's 'quick detach' parts can be used on your XB, BUT the bags are NOT quick detach, so if you put them on, they stay on. However, you CAN spend more $$ and get a dealership sold "Barebacks" kit which will convert these bags to quick-detach... BUT it's a pain in the *** (I did it), they say it is made for the XB model (but it's not) AND it requires some boltcutting and fabrication to make work.
Just some notes of caution. Good luck baghunters.
Anyone who is considering the stock bags and that Barebacks kit should pm me on this site or email me at jipsu1988 at Comcast dot net ....I will be happy to tell you what you are up against. Ride safe.
