Default 2006 Night Train with 210/40r18?

I want to know if anyone has put a 210/40/18 Metzeler on a stock Night Train or if its possible?

I have a 200/50/17 on there now. With the current set up, I have 15mm on the brake side and 10 mm on the belt side. With the addition of 10mm overall, I would be left with 5mm on the belt side.

Would only having 5mm be too close? I dont think those tires expand a lot, but I dont want to rub.

Thoughts, pictures or links will be a big help.

The stock Dunlop is a 200/55/17. Metzler makes a 210/50/17 replacement. How are you aiming to fit an 18 on the stock rear wheel?

Tires are not that cut and dry. Some brands run big, some small, and virtually none will be exactly 210mm. Add to that you are taking a tire that is just a little over 3/8" wider and putting on a wheel that is 3/4" narrower than the stocker...it might not be as wide as the tire you have on there now...either way not worth the trouble because no one will notice 10mm.

I have a question about your bike, which looks great, nice job. How did you get those reaper wheels on a 07. I have a 06 Nighttrain and it looks like they won't fit my bike, will they? The book shows they fit a 08 or later softtail. Can you help me out with how you made this happen.

Thanks in advance,

Tony

Thanks everyone for the replacement info.

Let me be more specific, I like the look of an 18" rim, so regardless of the tire width......we are going 18. So now its on to if I'm going to get a 200/50/18 (which everyone has done) or a 210/40/18 which I havent seen on a Harley. The lower profile of the 40 sounds appealing in the looks department and the 210 is to give me a little extra in the back end. With all the riders out there, someone has to have put a 210/40/18 on the back. If no one has, then I'll do it and post a pic for everyone to see the before and after.

Tom84 made a valid point. I'll add just one more consideration... you say the lower profile of the 40 is appealing in the looks dept., but have you considered the overall look? According to the tire calculator, the 210 is 1.26" shorter. That's going to lower the rear end height and effective gear ratio (numerically higher), and open up more fender gap.

Lucky, thanks for the calculator, it gives me a clear picture. I'm going to add it to my favorites.
