I just got back from a 3K mile trip and noticed that the front tire on my 07 Fatboy is cupped........could feel some vibration in the front end but not really too bad. Anyway a friend I ride with has a touring bike with the same tire on the front and had it replaced by HD for the same reason.......cupping. I stopped by a local Harley Dealer last week and they said that they are only replacing the D407's on the touring machines but not the Softails, anyone had this problem? I was also told that D407 is out of production and has been replaced with the D408.

 

is the tire the original stock? because last year sometime there was a recall on the D407's and the dealers were supposed to take them all in and replace them with a D408F.. i didn't notice if it was just touring models or all models.. but i'd investigate the recall and be like "Nope, gimmie new tire, k thx bai."

 

I think it was the rear tires that they were replacing. They replaced my rear 200 at 4900 miles for free. I didn't even have to ask.

 

my d407 had about 5000 miiles and was cupping...no vibration. Took it to the dealer (which i don't do often) and explained what i knew about the d407 issue, the orders to use up old d407 inventory, etc... Believe it or not, the dealer replaced the "front" tire and tube free of charge. Put a d408 on it. Holy cow!! Stand your ground...

Thanks guys for the info.......i called a different dealer and he's giving me the tire for 1/2 off and he's working on getting it for free. Since the bike is an 07 there is no Harley warranty so they are depending on the good will of the tire mfgr........Dunlop to replace the tire. I will keep you posted, love the bike and this is the only thing I can say that i've had a problem with. By the way, the tread design on the D408 is opposite the design of the D407......i'm thinking there was a problem...duh?
