Default My 96 Softail Build

Hey all,
I've finally stumbled across the right bike to do a build. So here is the start of it...

The history...
My friend bought this bike from his roomate, RIP, and then rode it for quite a few years. 3 years ago, he accidentally had to play chicken with a PT Cruiser and they both lost. The front end was replaced with the wide glide front end pictured on the bike now. It never worked right, and for a couple years, it didn't even have a fender, till a 12 hour bike tour in the rain.... Another story... This year he finally purchased a newer ultra, and 2 days later, he went off the road on this heritage. He sold it to me for $1500. This will be my 16 year old sons bike, once he earns it. I expect him to spend a lot of time in the garage on this one. :-)

I take a lot of pictures, and go off on a lot of tangents and improvise when I build bikes, so this should be an enjoyable build. The bike runs just fine, I've know the bike, it's history, and I've had it running since it was wrecked. It doesn't appear to have any frame damage, so away we go!!

At the end of this, I'm hoping to have something similar to this as far as style, but crazier things can happen along the way :-)

Sit back and enjoy :-)

Got it into the garage, now the tear down begins! I didn't mention that my friend I purchased this from doesn't have a garage, so this bike has seen many a rainy day, and I'm sure most winters....

Thats it for tonight....

I did pick up a few parts already! :-)

Custom painted (black/black cherry/red metalflake) stretched tanks, with matching fenders, and drag specialties flame stitched seat.

A set of pro-one front end, I got a great deal on!

I picked up these rims and tires for a great deal as well! Rims look like brand new. Tires are about 70%, at least one season on them. They will do until I decide on what I really want on this bike...

Good luck with it, turn it into something great. Current front end on it looks awful. I'm sure you will do a fine job, can't wait to see it finished.

That seat won't work with those tanks, unless you're gonna have it cut down.
