HELP on 2 into 1 Supertrapp EXHAUST / Then what
Hello all... New here, not sure where to post this question... If it should be in another thread, please let me know... I know there's probably 100 answer to this but any help would be appreciated.
have 09 Softail Crossbones. Mainly stock, just bolt-ons. New Tins are awaiting to be put on. But my question is exhaust changing.
I looked at a bunch but got a deal on the (2 into 1) tunable disk Supertrapps W/ open or closed end cap. SO NOW WHAT...? I've heard:
- just put them on and see how it goes.
- re-map I can do internal long term damage.
-have to change to Air intake to get full benefit of exhaust.
-MUST have it re-mapped if I replace full exhaust,
What have you guys done... and what was the outcome..?
A little bit of extra H/P would be cool, but I'm not going after the million H/P. The stock pipes are a bit quiet, but as I get older, it's not that bit of a deal. A bit more noise would be ok, but not the objective.
OK, so why not stay with the stock ones... lol... I wanted them Blacked out, and I want to put full size springer bags on. I don't like the small ones they make for the Crossbones. With the 2 into 1, it give a few extra inches to play with (we all know how important that is). And I fell into a good deal on these.
I plan on doing as much as possible myself as funds are limited. But if need be, will take it to HD for final adjustments...
thanks..

Just bolt the pipes on! Your bike might run a little hotter (because there is less back pressure), but that is nothing to be worried about.
The next step is changing the air intake (new high flow air filter or a so called STAGE 1), and then you will need to do something about the engine software because you are changing the air/fuel mixture. A PCV or PV will solve that problem, but there are plenty of threads on the forum about that.
Hav fun and stay safe!

To get the most out of what you already have on a limited budget get a K&N replacement air filter about $81.75
http://www.knfilters.com/search/appsearch.aspx
or
add any high performance air cleaner you want for around $200-$350 and just get the Harley Stage 1 download for your Fuel Injection which is around $100.
P.S. For your Supertrapp exhaust, use the open end cap and the discs with the hole in the center for the most performance gain.
It will be louder but you will always sacrifice power if you are trying to make it quiter. It's your choice.
