Question about oil change on a 2011 Blackline
Hey Fellas.... I am still waiting for my service manual to arrive... in the meantime I found a 2008 service manual that indicates the following:
2.5 quarts for engine oil (20W50)
1 quart for Transmission (Syn3 HD Formula+)
1 quart for Primary (Syn3 HD Formula+)
Are these amounts / oil type correct for a 2011 Blackline?
Thanks and happy riding!!

That will work but do it to the proper levels. My guess is you will have a little left over especially since I assume you have 3 qts motor oil. And the transmission does not take a full qt. That remaining of the motor oil should touch up the level to your next oil change. The service manual is not much better then owners manual for this simple maintenance. The primary probably does not need full qt but most throw it in. I do the level thing.

uhm... I am looking at the 2008 Softail service manual and it indicates:
Engine Oil 2.5 quarts (2.4 liters) wet capacity / 3.0 quarts (2.7 liters) dry capacity
Primary 32 oz (.096L) Wet / 40 oz (1.18L) Dry
Transmission 32 oz (0.96L)
Question is... Does the 2011 require the same Oil levels as the 2008 engine??
One more thing.. the service manual states that I need to warm up the engine to operating temperature before engine oil change.... but it does not mention anything about the Transmission / Primary.... so... is it ok to change the transmission/primary oil with a warm engine?... or should I do this first on a cold engine? (sorry guys... you can tell I am pretty **** about correct procedures.. :-)
Thanks !!!

Hey Mike.... yeah... unfortunately my Sporty broke down 300 miles away from home...the dealers in the area didn't have any parts.. and they had a 2011 Blackline for $13.5 after much bugging from the sales guy... I rode back home on a brand new softail!!!..

You should be fine. Start the engine and warm it up. This puts most oil in the tank. Drain the tank and put in about 2.5 quarts. Run the engine for a few minutes and check the level. Top off if needed. The tranny and primary can be done cold, each taking 1 quart. You'll be good to go. New 'o' rings would be good. All three are the same. I've never replaced my derby gasket. Just put a little grease on it and put it back on.
