oil change/warranty
My question is will it be an issue to take my bike to a local shop instead of my area dealer for oil changes and service while its still in warranty? I have 2 local shops in my town and all the dealers are a minimum of 40 min away.

Do your first service at the dealer then after that your good to go.

Shouldn't be an issue as long as you save all receipts.
Better yet, do all the fluid changes yourself and save some cash. Again save the receipts in case you have to make a warranty claim, you can prove the fluids were changed regularly. |

Most let the dealer at least do the first one,, They are supposed to check everything all over the bike... Yeah That one.....Keep all receipts on everything is a good Idea. U'll learn as U go... I let the dealer do the first 3, then I found a good indy that did the next, and now for the last 3yrs I do it all cept the tires and brakes... Buy a shop manual if U haven't already..... .. |

I understand the Magnuson-Moss Act, but just to take 1st change liability off you, I would give it to the dealer this ONE time. As for Independent, ask around, get info, there are a ton of people that say they are mechanics, but are just part changers, your gunna want a shop that knows and understands how engines and trans work, and know HD wiring, FI etc. Again JMO... |
Maybe even start a post, where you live asking who uses a indy and gather info thru a thread.
Again JMO... |
It had its first service at the dealer. Im mechanically inclined so i know i could do it. Ive just never worked on a harley before. A shop manuel is a good idea i just havent been able to pick one up yet.
